Beyaz Drug Interactions

Several drugs can react with Beyaz, such as ibuprofen, heparin, and barbiturates. In some cases, interactions with this birth control pill can lead to high levels of potassium in the body; other interactions have been shown to reduce the effectiveness of Beyaz. To help ensure your safety with this oral contraceptive, tell your healthcare provider about all of your current medications.

An Introduction to Interactions With Beyaz

Beyaz™ (drospirenone/ethinyl estradiol/levomefolate calcium) can potentially react with several other medicines. Some of the drugs that may interact with Beyaz include:
  • Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren®)
  • Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), such as:
  • Antibiotics
  • Aprepitant (Emend®)
  • Atorvastatin (Lipitor®) or combination medications that contain atorvastatin (Caduet®, Liptruzet™)
  • Barbiturates, such as:
    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)
  • Phenytoin (Dilantin®, Phenytek®) or fosphenytoin (Cerebyx®)
  • Potassium products, such as:
    • Potassium chloride (K-Dur®, Klor-Con®, Micro-K®)
    • Potassium citrate (Urocit-K®, Polycitra-K®)
    • Potassium gluconate
    • Potassium phosphate (Neutra-Phos-K®, K-Phos®)
    • Salt substitutes (used to flavor food)
