Birth Control Failure Rates

Lowering Your Birth Control Failure Rate

As you might expect, using your method of birth control (whichever you choose) correctly and consistently can decrease the risk for accidental pregnancy. This means using it every time (for barrier methods) or taking it every day (for the pill). Combining methods can also reduce your risk of accidental pregnancy. For instance, combining condoms with spermicide can lower the failure rate.
It is important for couples to discuss their expectations and wishes for family planning. If it is very important that you avoid pregnancy, then a more reliable method (or combination of methods) should be chosen.
