Demulen Dosage

The standard dosage of Demulen is one pill taken once a day, at the same time every day. You can start the pills on the first day of your period or on the first Sunday after your period starts. If you miss any doses, it can significantly increase your risk of pregnancy. It's important to know what to do if you miss any pills.

An Introduction to Dosing With Demulen

There is only one standard way to take Demulen® (ethynodiol diacetate/ethinyl estradiol). As always, do not adjust your Demulen dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so. Although birth control pills are extremely effective when taken as directed, their effectiveness decreases significantly if you take them incorrectly.
(Brand-name Demulen is no longer available in the United States, as it was discontinued by its manufacturer. However, generic versions, sold under the names Zovia® and Kelnor™, are still available. If your healthcare provider writes you a prescription for Demulen, your pharmacist will automatically substitute one of the generic versions.)

Basic Demulen Dosing Instructions

Starting at the beginning of the pack, take one tablet every day, at the same time each day. Each pack will last for four weeks (28 days). After you finish one pack, immediately start a new one the next day. Do not let any days pass between packs, even if you are still having your period (this may take a little planning, as you will need a new pack on hand).
The first 21 tablets contain the active ingredients. The last seven tablets do not contain any active ingredients. During this last week, your body gets a break from the hormones, allowing you to have a period.
