Demulen Drug Interactions

There are several medications that can cause drug interactions with Demulen. These reactions could be severe enough to increase your risk of unintentional pregnancy, so it's important to talk to your healthcare provider before taking any medications with this birth control pill. Interactions may occur if Demulen is combined with products such as antibiotics, certain seizure medications, or St. John's wort, to name a few.

An Overview of Interactions With Demulen

Demulen® (ethynodiol diacetate/ethinyl estradiol) can potentially interact with several other medicines. Sometimes, these interactions can be severe enough to lead to unintentional pregnancy. In many situations, a backup method of birth control, such as condoms, may be advised.
Some of the medicines that can lead to Demulen drug interactions include:
  • Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren®)
  • Antibiotics
  • Aprepitant (Emend®)
  • Barbiturates, such as:
    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Primidone (Mysoline®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)
