Blood Clots and LaparoscopyDeveloping blood clots following laparoscopy can sometimes lead to serious complications, such as a pulmonary embolus. This occurs when a blood clot in the leg or pelvis breaks off and travels to the lungs, making it difficult for the lungs to provide oxygen to the rest of the body. Large blood clots are usually treated with blood-thinning medication and extra days in the hospital, and occasionally require surgery. Talking to your doctor about blood clots and laparoscopy can help you evaluate your risk.
