There is currently no over-the-counter Diflucan® (fluconazole). It is an antifungal medication that is available by prescription only. The medication is approved to treat different types of fungal infections (such as yeast infections and thrush) and can also be used to prevent fungal infections in people undergoing bone marrow transplantations.
Unlike most other yeast infection medications, Diflucan is not used vaginally. It works through the bloodstream to treat fungal infections. The medicine comes in tablet, suspension (oral liquid), and injectable form, and is available in the following strengths:
- Diflucan 50 mg tablets
- Diflucan 100 mg tablets
- Diflucan 150 mg tablets
- Diflucan 200 mg tablets
- Diflucan powder for oral suspension (which is mixed by a pharmacist to a concentration of 10 or 40 mg per mL, depending on the strength)
- Diflucan 2 mg per mL injection (available in various package sizes).
