Gesticare DHA and Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding women are typically advised to take a prenatal vitamin such as Gesticare DHA. Breastfeeding is a time of increased nutritional need, and for infants, breast milk is often the only source of vitamins and minerals. Since every woman's situation is different, however, you should talk to your healthcare provider about what to do in your particular situation.

Can I Take Gesticare DHA Safely While Breastfeeding?

Gesticare® DHA is considered safe for use while breastfeeding. In fact, it is usually recommended that breastfeeding women take a prenatal vitamin, since nursing (like pregnancy) is a time of increased nutritional need. Also, for infants who are breastfed exclusively, breast milk is the only source of essential vitamins and minerals.
Keep in mind that it is not a good idea to take too much of any particular vitamin or mineral, so you should not take any additional supplements unless you have your healthcare provider's approval.
There is one exception to this suggestion -- prenatal vitamins (including Gesticare DHA products) usually do not contain enough calcium for most women. Be sure to ask your healthcare provider about any additional calcium supplementation you may need.

Talking With Your Healthcare Provider About Breastfeeding and Gesticare DHA

You should talk with your healthcare provider about breastfeeding and Gesticare DHA. Each woman's situation is different, and you and your healthcare provider understand your situation best. After considering what you want and expect, as well as your current health situation, the two of you can make a shared decision that is right for you.
In general, Gesticare DHA is considered safe (and actually beneficial) for breastfeeding women and their infants.
