Tubal Ligation and Its Effects on the Menstrual Cycle

Tubal ligation has no effects on a woman's menstrual cycle. Following a tubal ligation, a woman will continue to menstruate as she normally would until she reaches menopause.
Tubal ligation also does not affect the ability to have sex. You should know that no significant or prolonged sexual problems have been linked to this procedure in any way. After laparoscopic sterilization, you may begin to have sexual relations whenever you are ready.
If you have questions about the possible effects of tubal ligation, you and your doctor should discuss them. It is very important for your expectations to match your doctor's.
