LaViv Side Effects

Redness, pain, and bruising are among the most commonly reported side effects with LaViv. However, clinical trials on this drug have shown that these types of reactions are typically mild and easy to treat. Seek medical attention right away if you develop more serious problems, such as any signs of an infection, widespread swelling, or difficulty breathing.

Are Side Effects Possible With LaViv?

As with most facial fillers, LaViv™ (azficel-T) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who receives this treatment will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with LaViv. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)

Common LaViv Side Effects

LaViv has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials in which people were randomly treated with either LaViv or placebo injections, which contained just the inactive ingredients, without any cells. This way, researchers were able to compare the side effects between the two treatments.
The most common reactions to LaViv included:
  • Redness -- up to 16 percent of people
  • Swelling -- up to 14 percent
  • Bruising -- up to 11 percent
  • Pain -- up to 6 percent.
Other common side effects, occurring in 1 to 4 percent of people, included:
  • Bleeding
  • Water retention
  • Lumps or bumps
  • Irritation
  • Rash
  • Itching.
