Leuprolide Acetate Depot Dosage

Although you can administer a dosage of leuprolide acetate depot yourself, most people receive the injection at a healthcare facility. The amount you are prescribed will depend on factors such as the condition being treated and, in children, weight. You may receive this medication monthly, every three months, or every four months; however, the individual forms are not interchangeable.

An Introduction to Dosing With Leuprolide Acetate Depot

The leuprolide acetate depot (Lupron Depot®) dose your healthcare provider recommends will vary, depending on a number of factors, including:
  • The reason you are using the medication
  • Your weight (in children)
  • How you respond to it.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Leuprolide Acetate Depot Dosage for Advanced Prostate Cancer

The standard dose of leuprolide acetate depot in advanced prostate cancer depends on the specific product used. This medication is available in a one-month, three-month, and four-month form for advanced prostate cancer treatment. The usual dosing options for these forms are as follows:
  • Leuprolide acetate depot 7.5 mg once monthly
  • Leuprolide acetate depot 22.5 mg once every three months (every 84 days)
  • Leuprolide acetate depot 30 mg once every four months (every 16 weeks)
  • Leuprolide acetate depot 45 mg once every six months (every 24 weeks).
The individual leuprolide acetate depot dosage forms are not interchangeable. This means that, for example, the form of leuprolide acetate depot that is given every three months is not equivalent to the form that is given monthly, regardless of how often the medications are given.
