Levothroid Drug Interactions

Levothroid Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Levothroid is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Antacids or Gas-Relieving Medications
Antacids or medications for gas relief can bind to Levothroid in the digestive tract, decreasing the absorption of Levothroid into the body. Make sure to separate Levothroid and antacids or gas-relieving medications by at least four hours.
Antidepressant Medications
Combining Levothroid with some antidepressants may change the amount of Levothroid your body needs, and your healthcare provider may need to adjust your Levothroid dosage. Also, taking certain antidepressants with Levothroid may increase the risk of heart problems, such as an irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia). Be sure to check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
Calcium Products
Calcium can bind to Levothroid in the digestive tract, decreasing the absorption of Levothroid into the body. Make sure to separate Levothroid and calcium by at least four hours.
Certain Seizure Medications
Taking Levothroid with some seizure medications may change the amount of Levothroid your body needs. As a result, your healthcare provider may need to adjust your Levothroid dosage.
Cholestyramine
Cholestyramine can bind to Levothroid in the digestive tract, decreasing the absorption of Levothroid into the body. Make sure to separate Levothroid and cholestyramine by at least four hours.
Colestipol
Colestipol can bind to Levothroid in the digestive tract, decreasing the absorption of Levothroid into the body. Make sure to separate Levothroid and colestipol by at least four hours.
