Who Should Not Take Levothroid?

You should not take Levothroid if you:
 
  • Are allergic to Levothroid, levothyroxine sodium, or any of the inactive components used to make the medication. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of the inactive ingredients.

  • Have an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) or a low TSH (which can be an early symptom of hyperthyroidism).
    •  
  • Have untreated adrenal insufficiency, as Levothroid can cause serious problems unless this condition is appropriately treated.
    •  
  • Have recently had a heart attack.
    •
