Levothroid® (levothyroxine sodium) is a medication commonly prescribed to people who have an underactive thyroid or certain other thyroid problems. The medication works by boosting the body's thyroid hormone levels. Although most people tolerate Levothroid well, side effects are possible and may include insomnia, hair loss, and heart palpitations. Levothroid comes in the form of a tablet and it is usually taken once a day in the morning.
