Lo Loestrin Fe Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Lo Loestrin Fe is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Aminoglutethimide
Taking Lo Loestrin Fe with aminoglutethimide may increase your risk for unintentional pregnancy. Talk with your healthcare provider before using these medications together. You may need to use a backup method of contraception, such as condoms.
Antibiotics
There have been reports of accidental pregnancy occurring in women taking birth control pills together with certain antibiotics. However, the significance of this interaction is still uncertain. Some antibiotics are more likely to cause problems than others. Ask your healthcare provider if you need to use a backup method of contraception any time you take an antibiotic (see Antibiotics and Birth Control Pills).
Aprepitant
Aprepitant can make Lo Loestrin Fe less effective, perhaps increasing your chance of pregnancy. Talk with your healthcare provider before using these medications together. You may need to use a backup method of contraception.
Barbiturates
Barbiturates may cause your body to metabolize the hormones in Lo Loestrin Fe too quickly, increasing your risk for pregnancy. Ask your healthcare provider if you should use a different method of contraception while taking a barbiturate.
Cyclosporine
Lo Loestrin Fe may increase the level of cyclosporine in your blood, increasing the chance of side effects of cyclosporine. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together. You may need a lower cyclosporine dosage, or you may need to switch to a different method of contraception.
