Loestrin 24 Fe Drug Interactions

If certain seizure medications, antibiotics, or protease inhibitors are taken together with Loestrin 24 Fe, drug interactions may occur. Some interactions can increase your risk of developing side effects, while others may increase your chance of unintentional pregnancy. If you ever have any questions about a particular Loestrin 24 Fe drug interaction, use a backup contraceptive until you can talk to your healthcare provider.

 

An Introduction to Loestrin 24 Fe Drug Interactions

Loestrin® 24 Fe (norethindrone/ethinyl estradiol) can potentially interact with several other medicines. Sometimes, these interactions can be severe enough to cause unintentional pregnancy. If you are not sure how to handle any particular Loestrin 24 Fe drug interaction, it is a good idea to use a backup method of contraception (such as condoms) until you can check with your healthcare provider. Some of the medications that may lead to Loestrin 24 Fe interactions include:
 
  • Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren®)
  • Antibiotic medications
  • Aprepitant (Emend®)
  • Barbiturate medications, including (but not limited to):

 

    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)

 

  • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
  • Many seizure medications, such as:
