An Introduction to LoSeasonique Dosing
There is only one standard recommended dosage for
LoSeasonique® (levonorgestrel/ethinyl estradiol). As always, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
Dosage of LoSeasonique for Birth Control
When you take LoSeasonique for the first time, start the pack on the first Sunday after your period starts. If your period happens to start on a Sunday, start the pack on the first day of your period. For the first seven days when you first start LoSeasonique, a backup method of contraception (such as condoms) is necessary.
Starting at the beginning of the pack, take one tablet at the same time each day. Each pack will last for 91 days (13 weeks) in three trays. Start at the front tray and continue through the pack; after you finish one pack, immediately start a new one. The first 84 tablets (which are orange) contain both levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol.
The last seven (the yellow tablets) contain a low dosage of ethinyl estradiol but no levonorgestrel. By taking these seven tablets, your body gets a break from the levonorgestrel, allowing you to have a period. You may experience breakthrough bleeding or spotting between periods. This is not an actual period; keep taking LoSeasonique as usual.
