Lybrel Dosage

The standard Lybrel dosage for preventing pregnancy is one pill every day, at the same time each day. Each Lybrel package contains 28 pills. It is important that you take them in order and not let any days go by in between packs. If you miss any Lybrel doses, you may need to use a backup method of contraception (such as condoms), as missing doses increases your risk of pregnancy.

Lybrel Dosage: An Introduction

There is only one standard dose of Lybrel™ (levonorgestrel/ethinyl estradiol). As always, do not adjust your Lybrel dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Lybrel Dosing for Birth Control

Starting at the beginning of the pack, take one tablet at the same time each day. Each pack will last for 28 days. After you finish one pack, immediately start a new one. Every tablet in the pack contains the active hormones. Unlike traditional birth control pills, there are no inactive tablets in each pack. Because there is no break from the hormones, you will not have a regular monthly period, although you will likely bleed and spot unpredictably from time to time.
When you take Lybrel for the first time, start the pack on the first day of your period (within 24 hours after bleeding starts). You will be protected from pregnancy from the time you start the pills; no backup method of contraception is necessary.

Lybrel Dosing and Missed Pills

It is very important that you take Lybrel every day (at the same time every day), even if you do not have sex very often. Missing pills increases the risk of pregnancy. What you should do if you miss pills depends on how many pills you have missed. General instructions for missed Lybrel pills include:
  • If you miss one pill, take the missed pill as soon as you remember and take the next pill at your regular time, even if this means taking two pills at once. Be sure to use a backup method of contraceptive (such as condoms) for seven days after you restart the pills.
  • If you miss two pills in a row (and remember on the day of the second missed pill), take two pills on the day you remember and then go back to your regular schedule. This should get you back on your regular schedule. You must use a backup method of contraception (such as condoms) if you have sex in the seven days after you restart the pills.
  • If you miss two pills in a row (and remember on the day after the second missed pill), take two pills on the day you remember and two pills the next day. This should get you back on your regular schedule. You must use a backup method of contraception (such as condoms) if you have sex in the seven days after you restart the pills.
  • If you miss three or more pills in a row, contact your healthcare provider for advice. Continue to take one pill a day until you can contact your healthcare provider.
