Lybrel Drug Interactions

If you are taking certain medications with Lybrel, drug interactions may occur. Some of these drug interactions with Lybrel can decrease the effectiveness of the contraceptive, increasing your risk of pregnancy. You may need to use a backup method of contraception if you take Lybrel with certain medicines. Some of the medicines that may interact with Lybrel include antibiotics, barbiturates, and certain seizure medications.

An Introduction to Lybrel Drug Interactions

As with any other birth control pill, Lybrel™ (levonorgestrel/ethinyl estradiol) can potentially interact with several other medicines. Some of these medicines that may lead to Lybrel interactions include:
  • Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren®)
  • Antibiotics
  • Aprepitant (Emend®)
  • Barbiturates, such as:

 

    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Primidone (Mysoline®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)
  • Certain seizure medications, such as:
