Altavera is a combined oral contraceptive, meaning it contains a combination of two different hormones (an estrogen and a progestin). This prescription birth control pill works to prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation, changing the cervical mucus, and altering the lining of the uterus. Although most people do not experience problems while taking it, side effects can occur and may include headaches and breast tenderness.
What Is Altavera?Altavera™ (levonorgestrel/ethinyl estradiol) is a prescription birth control pill (oral contraceptive) that is used to prevent pregnancy. It is a generic version of Nordette®.
Are There Side Effects?Just like any medicine, Altavera can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses this contraceptive will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.
- Breakthrough bleeding or spotting (between periods)
- Breast swelling and tenderness
- Nausea with or without vomiting
