Although the results for the various procedures used to treat bunions vary slightly, 85 to 90 out of 100 patients have good results with this procedure. A good result includes relief from pain and correction of the deformity. The results are normally long lasting, but changes in shoe wear are important in maintaining the desired results. In other words, the goal is to be pain-free in shoes such as athletic shoes or in dress shoes with a wide toe box and moderate heels. Wearing narrow toed shoes with a high heel is not encouraged nor helpful to your healing process.
In some cases, bunions may return or pain may continue. This may require an additional surgical procedure.
Because individual situations can vary, if you have any questions about your expected results, you and your doctor can discuss your particular situation. It is important that your expectations match your doctor's expectations.
