Women Home > How to Find Support for Infertility

As you struggle with infertility, you may find a support group a valuable resource. These are available both online and in person. They are beneficial in that they offer a safe place where you can share your experience with people who are going through the same thing. However, you have total control over whether to share personal information and how much. You might even become a source of support for someone else!

Why Should I Consider a Support Group for Infertility?

Going through infertility is a difficult path to walk. There are many unknowns and many decisions to make. But you don't have to do it alone! There are others who are walking the same road, and many who have had to make similar decisions along the way. Although women who are going through infertility understand that there is nothing anyone can say to make it better, talking with someone who truly understands where you're coming from can be a great source of strength and support.
If you are wondering whether a support group would be right for you, ask yourself a few questions, such as:
  • Am I feeling like no one understands?
  • Am I feeling isolated from others and lonely?
  • Is my partner the only one who is providing the bulk of my emotional support?
  • Is infertility starting to affect my work?
  • Am I feeling like my life is out of control and I can't make decisions on my medical options?
  • Is it becoming unbearable to be around family and friends who are pregnant or have kids?
If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you may want to consider a support group or talking to someone who has been on this journey. Listening to others' stories can help give you support and ideas for how to cope with some of the obstacles that will come up during your own infertility battle.
