Women Home > Nonprescription Latisse

Available only by prescription, Latisse is approved to enhance eyelashes. Although many Web sites may claim to sell a nonprescription Latisse, it is illegal and potentially dangerous to purchase this medication from such sites. Also, although many nonprescription eyelash products claim to work in a similar way as Latisse, these products do not lengthen, darken, or thicken lashes.

Can You Buy Latisse Without a Prescription?

Latisse® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) is a medication used to enhance eyelashes. It is only available with a prescription. This means that legally, Latisse can only be obtained with a valid prescription from an appropriately licensed healthcare provider.
You may be able to find Web sites that sell (or claim to sell) nonprescription Latisse or with an "online consultation." However, these Web sites should not be trusted, as they are breaking several laws in the United States. Any source willing to sell Latisse without a prescription cannot be considered a legitimate business.

OTC Alternatives to Latisse

Several notable (and expensive) cosmetic eyelash products are available without a prescription and supposedly work in the same way as Latisse. However, the makers of such products cannot claim that they lengthen, darken, or thicken lashes, as such claims would make the product a drug, not a cosmetic, in terms of how it is regulated. As a result, these products are marketed as "eyelash conditioners."
Because these products have not been subjected to the rigorous studies required for drugs to be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), there is no real scientific evidence that they are either effective or safe. It should be noted that these products cannot legally contain bimatoprost (the active ingredient in Latisse).
