The main uses of Macrodantin are to treat and to prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs). Macrodantin is particularly effective for bladder infections caused by E. coli, S. saprophyticus, and certain other bacteria. Although this antibiotic can be used in children as young as one month, it is not always the treatment of choice in such young children; a liquid antibiotic is typically used instead.
