Women Home > Benzphetamine Hydrochloride Information

Benzphetamine hydrochloride (Didrex®) is a prescription medicine used to help people lose weight. It is approved for short-term use only and should be combined with an appropriate diet. The medication comes as a tablet and is taken one to three times a day.
How does it work? Benzphetamine suppresses the appetite and increases metabolism, which can help with weight loss. Studies show that this product is effective; however, these same studies also suggest that these weight loss benefits decrease after the first few weeks.
To ensure your safety with benzphetamine, make sure your healthcare provider has up-to-date information on any other medications you are taking (including nonprescription drugs), as well as any allergies you may have, including to any drugs, foods, dyes, or preservatives. Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
