Women Home > Yeast Infection Symptoms

Itching, burning, and irritation of the vagina and vulva are typical yeast infection symptoms. An abnormal, cottage cheese-like vaginal discharge is one of the most common symptoms, which can range from mild to very uncomfortable. Some women have no signs and symptoms of yeast infection at all. In general, men do not get yeast infections, but some men have reported symptoms after sex without a condom.

Yeast Infection Signs and Symptoms: An Overview

Yeast infection symptoms in women can range from mild to very uncomfortable. Possible symptoms may include:
  • Itching, burning, and irritation of the vagina
  • Itching, redness, and irritation of the vulva
  • Painful urination and/or intercourse
  • Abnormal vaginal discharge.
If the abnormal discharge occurs, it is usually described as looking like cottage cheese. However, the discharge can vary in amount and appearance. It does not generally have a bad odor.
Symptoms of yeast infection can be similar to symptoms seen in other kinds of vaginal infections.

Symptoms of Yeast Infection in Men

Most male partners of women with yeast infections do not have any symptoms. Some men, however, have reported yeast infection symptoms after sexual intercourse if condoms were not used. These symptoms can include temporary rashes and burning sensations of the penis.
