Macrodantin Side Effects

Although most people tolerate the medicine well, it's possible to experience side effects with Macrodantin. This antibiotic is an older medication, so only vague side effect information is available. Based on this information, side effects of the drug may include headache, dizziness, and other problems. Notify your doctor immediately if you notice problems such as hives, wheezing, or blue skin.

Macrodantin Side Effects: An Introduction

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Macrodantin® (nitrofurantoin macrocrystalline). However, not everyone who takes the medication will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

Possible Bothersome Side Effects of Macrodantin

Macrodantin is an older medication.
 As is common with older drugs, only vague side effect information (without exact percentages) is provided in the prescribing information. Based on this limited information, some of the possible bothersome (but not usually dangerous) Macrodantin side effects include:
 
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Headache
  • A spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Loss of appetite
  • Abdominal pain (stomach pain)
  • Diarrhea.
