Medroxyprogesterone Intramuscular Injection Dosage

Medroxyprogesterone Intramuscular Injection Dosing for Renal and Endometrial Cancer

The standard initial dosage for renal cancer (kidney cancer) and endometrial cancer is 400 mg to 1000 mg per week. Your individual amount will be determined by your healthcare provider. If your symptoms improve and the cancer appears to be stable, the dosage may be decreased to 400 mg once a month.
Medroxyprogesterone intramuscular injection is normally used in combination with other cancer treatment. It does not cure cancer, but may help relieve some of the symptoms of cancer. This is known as palliative treatment.

General Information on Receiving Medroxyprogesterone Intramuscular Injection

Some considerations to keep in mind during treatment with medroxyprogesterone intramuscular injection include the following:
  • This medication is given as an injection into a muscle (as an intramuscular, or IM, injection), every week to every three months, depending on the reason it is being used.
  • The injection is usually given by a healthcare provider in a healthcare setting, such as a clinic. It is usually given in the buttocks (gluteal muscle) or upper arm (deltoid muscle).
  • Medroxyprogesterone intramuscular injection should not be used as a contraceptive for longer than two years, unless other birth control methods are not an option.
  • For this drug to work properly, it must be used as prescribed. Make sure to keep all of your appointments with your healthcare provider to avoid missing a dose.
  • If you are unsure about anything related to dosing with medroxyprogesterone intramuscular injection, please talk to your healthcare provider or pharmacist.
