Mifepristone has not been studied in children and is not approved for use in this age group. Talk to your child's healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of using mifepristone in children younger than 18 years old.

What About Off-Label Uses for Mifepristone?

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend mifepristone for something other than the purpose discussed in this article. This is called an "off-label" use. Some off-label uses for mifepristone may include:
  • Causing an abortion in women who are more than 49 days pregnant
  • Inducing labor
  • Emergency contraception
  • Dilating the cervix in preparation for certain gynecological procedures
  • Treating irregular periods
  • Treating uterine fibroids
  • Treating ovarian cancer.
