Mircette Dosage

When using Mircette for birth control, there is only one standard dosage -- one tablet once a day. It is important not to miss any of your Mircette doses, as doing so increases your chance of getting pregnant. What you should do if you miss a dose will depend on how many pills you have missed, when in the cycle you missed the pills, and whether you are a day 1 or Sunday starter.

Mircette Dosage: An Introduction

There is only one standard dose of Mircette® (desogestrel/ethinyl estradiol). As always, do not adjust your Mircette dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Mircette Dosing for Birth Control

Starting at the beginning of the pack, take one tablet at the same time each day. Each pack will last for four weeks (28 days). After you finish one pack, immediately start a new one. Do not let any days pass between packs (this may take a little planning, as you will need a new pack on hand). The first 21 tablets contain the active ingredients. The next two tablets do not contain any active ingredients, and the last five tablets just contain ethinyl estradiol (no desogestrel). During this last week, your body gets a little break from the hormones, allowing you to have a period.
When you take Mircette for the first time, you can start on either the first day of your period or on the first Sunday after your period starts. If you start Mircette on the first day of your period (a "day 1 start"), you do not need any backup contraception. If you choose a Sunday start, you need to use a backup method of contraception (such as condoms) for the first week. If the first day of your period happens to fall on a Sunday, treat this as a day 1 start (no backup method of contraception needed).
