Following a myomectomy, most patients feel that their symptoms improve. However, because pelvic pain and discomfort are often symptoms of other gynecologic problems, besides uterine fibroids, the pain relief may be limited or may return at a future date.
Having a myomectomy can improve your fertility. Factors such as age, the desire to conceive, the size of myomas, and the number of myomas can play a role in your ability to conceive after the procedure. If you do conceive, your baby will most likely need to be delivered by C-section.
Regarding longer-term results, only 15 out of 100 patients experience a return of their symptoms after a myomectomy and 20-40 out of 100 of these ultimately require a second treatment. Your specific results are impossible to predict. However, if you have any questions, you and your doctor can discuss your situation. It is important that your expectations match those of your doctor.
