Nortrel Warnings and Precautions

Before starting Nortrel, warnings and precautions of the birth control pill should be reviewed with your healthcare provider. For instance, you should be aware that Nortrel can make certain health conditions worse, such as depression, high blood pressure, and gallbladder disease. Nortrel warnings and precautions also apply to people who have certain allergies and to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Nortrel: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk with your healthcare provider before taking Nortrel^® (norethindrone and ethinyl estradiol) if you have:

Had yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin (jaundice) during a prior pregnancy or oral contraceptive use
High cholesterol
Gallbladder disease
Depression
Diabetes
Liver disease, such as liver failure, cirrhosis, or hepatitis
Cancer (or if you have had cancer in the past)
Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
Heart disease
Had a heart attack or stroke
Had a blood clot or a clotting disorder
Chest pain
High blood pressure (hypertension)
Any allergies, including allergies to dyes, foods, or preservatives.

Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:

Are over 35 years old
Smoke cigarettes
Have an upcoming surgery
Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
Are breastfeeding.

Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
