NuvaRing Risks

NuvaRing® (etonogestrel/ethinyl estradiol vaginal ring) is a popular contraception method. Similar to birth control pills, it contains two different hormones that help to prevent pregnancy. Before you start using the product, risks associated with the use of NuvaRing should be reviewed with your healthcare provider.
A number of side effects have been reported with NuvaRing. Some of the most common side effects that were seen with this form of birth control include:
NuvaRing may also increase the risk of blood clots, strokes, and heart attacks. Hormonal contraceptives (such as NuvaRing) may also worsen gallbladder disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, or various other conditions. Therefore, it is important to tell your healthcare provider about all existing medical conditions you have before using the vaginal ring.
