Nystatin for Diaper Rash

A number of ointments and creams are available for the treatment of diaper rash. For example, nystatin is an antifungal medication that is approved to treat diaper rashes that have been infected with Candida (a species of fungi). Most antifungal creams and ointments are available over-the-counter (OTC), but nystatin is a prescription-only product.

Antifungal products should be applied sparingly. Depending on your healthcare provider's instructions, you may (or may not) need to apply these products after each diaper change. Antifungal creams or ointments are usually applied to the diaper area beneath the barrier ointment at least two to three times a day until the rash gets better.
