Vaginal Nystatin

Nystatin is an antifungal medication that is available by prescription only. It is approved for the treatment of thrush, yeast infections, and various other fungal infections. There are many different forms of nystatin: vaginal tablets, oral tablets, oral solution, ointment, powder, and cream.
The vaginal tablets are commonly used for treating yeast infections. It is important that you use this medicine for the full amount of time that your healthcare provider recommends, even if the infection seems to have cleared already.
The medicine works to treat fungal infections by binding to ergosterol, an important component of the fungal cell membrane. This changes the fungal cell membrane, making it more "leaky" and allowing for the leakage of important cellular contents to occur.
