Ortho Evra Drug Interactions

Ortho Evra Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Ortho Evra is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren)
Aminoglutethimide can make Ortho Evra less effective, possibly increasing your risk of pregnancy. Talk with your healthcare provider before using these medications together. You may need to use a backup method of contraception (such as condoms).
Antibiotics
There have been reports of accidental pregnancy occurring in women taking birth control pills and certain antibiotics. However, the significance of this interaction is still uncertain. Some antibiotics are more likely to cause problems than others. If you are taking an antibiotic, ask your healthcare provider if you need to use a backup method of contraception.
Aprepitant (Emend)
Aprepitant can make Ortho Evra less effective, perhaps increasing your chance of pregnancy. Talk with your healthcare provider before using these medications together. You may need to use a backup method of contraception.
Atorvastatin (Lipitor)
Atorvastatin may increase the level of Ortho Evra in your blood, which may increase your risk of Ortho Evra side effects. Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.
Barbiturates
Barbiturates may cause your body to metabolize the hormones in Ortho Evra too quickly, increasing your risk of pregnancy. Ask your healthcare provider if you should use a different method of contraception while taking a barbiturate.
Cyclosporine (Gengraf, Neoral, Sandimmune)
Ortho Evra may increase the level of cyclosporine in your blood, increasing the chance of side effects of cyclosporine. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together. You may need a lower cyclosporine dose, or you may need to switch to a different method of contraception.
