Ortho Evra Drug Interactions

If certain medicines (such as antibiotics, barbiturates, or protease inhibitors) are taken together with Ortho Evra, drug interactions may occur that could alter the amount of the medications in your blood. As a result, these interactions may decrease the effectiveness of Ortho Evra, increasing your risk of pregnancy. To avoid these negative interactions, make sure to tell your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking.

 

An Introduction to Ortho Evra Drug Interactions

Ortho Evra® (norelgestromin/ethinyl estradiol) can potentially interact with several other medicines. Some of these Ortho Evra drug interactions may be severe enough to lead to unintentional pregnancy, and a backup method of contraception (such as condoms) may be necessary. Some of the medicines that may lead to Ortho Evra interactions include:
 

 

    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)

 

  • Cyclosporine (Gengraf®, Neoral®, Sandimmune®)
