Ortho Micronor Drug Interactions

Ortho Micronor Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Ortho Micronor is combined with any of the drugs listed above. If you are unsure about any particular interaction, it is a good idea to use backup birth control until you can speak with your healthcare provider.
Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren)
Combining Ortho Micronor with aminoglutethimide may increase your risk of unintentional pregnancy. Talk with your healthcare provider before using these medications together. You may need to use a backup method of contraception (such as condoms).
Antibiotics
There have been reports of unintentional pregnancy occurring in women taking birth control pills together with certain antibiotics. It is still uncertain how significant these interactions may be, since many of these cases may have been simply coincidence. Some antibiotics are more likely to cause problems than others. Ask your healthcare provider if you need a backup method of contraception any time you take an antibiotic.
Aprepitant (Emend)
Aprepitant may make Ortho Micronor less effective, perhaps increasing your chance of pregnancy. Talk with your healthcare provider before using these medications together. You may need to use a backup method of contraception.
Barbiturates
Barbiturates may cause your body to metabolize the hormones in Ortho Micronor too quickly, increasing your risk of pregnancy. Ask your healthcare provider if you should use a different method of contraception while taking a barbiturate.
Bosentan (Tracleer)
Bosentan may make Ortho Micronor less effective, perhaps increasing your chance of pregnancy. Talk with your healthcare provider before using these medications together. You may need to use a backup method of contraception.
