Ortho Micronor Drug Interactions

When you take certain medications in combination with Ortho Micronor, drug interactions could occur that may increase your risk of pregnancy. Some of these medications include antibiotics, bosentan, St. John's wort, and aminoglutethimide. Whenever you are unsure about any particular Ortho Micronor drug interaction, use a backup method of birth control until you can talk to your healthcare provider.

An Introduction to Ortho Micronor Drug Interactions

Ortho Micronor® (norethindrone) can potentially interact with several other medicines. Many of these interactions can be severe enough to lead to unintentional pregnancy, and a backup method of birth control may be recommended in many cases. Although many women are aware that antibiotics can interact with birth control pills, there are other medications that interact with Ortho Micronor as well. Some of the medicines that may lead to Ortho Micronor interactions include:

  • Aminoglutethimide (Cytadren®)
  • Antibiotics
  • Aprepitant (Emend®)
  • Barbiturate medications, including, but not limited to:

    • Amobarbital (Amytal®)
    • Butalbital (Fioricet®, Fiorinal®)
    • Pentobarbital (Nembutal®)
    • Phenobarbital (Luminal®)
    • Primidone (Mysoline®)
    • Secobarbital (Seconal®)
