Ovcon Warnings and Precautions

It is a good idea to talk to your healthcare provider about Ovcon warnings and precautions before you start taking this birth control pill. For example, you should be aware that this form of contraception increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and blood clots. Ovcon warnings and precautions also apply to women who have certain health conditions, such as heart disease or a blood clotting disorder.

Ovcon: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to using Ovcon^®(norethindrone/ethinyl estradiol) if you have:

A clotting disorder or have ever had a blood clot
Had a heart attack or stroke
High blood pressure (hypertension)
Chest pain
Had yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin (jaundice) during a prior pregnancy or oral contraceptive use
Liver disease, such as liver failure, cirrhosis, hepatitis, or liver tumors
High cholesterol
Gallbladder disease
Diabetes
Depression
Migraines or other severe headaches
Cancer (or if you have had cancer in the past)
Unexplained vaginal bleeding.

Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:

Have an upcoming surgery
Smoke cigarettes
Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
Are breastfeeding.

Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
