Diet for Overactive Thyroid

A healthy, well-balanced diet is important during treatment for hyperthyroidism. If you have an overactive thyroid, your diet should consist of things like fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins, with limited amounts of foods high in fat and cholesterol. However, it should be noted that no foods have been clinically proven to improve or worsen this condition.
It's also important to follow good dietary habits following treatment for overactive thyroid. The reason is that considerable weight gain is common following this condition. One study showed an average weight gain of about 12 pounds (5.4 kg) in people followed for up to two years after treatment.
