Proquin XR Drug Interactions

Proquin XR Drug Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Proquin XR is combined with any of the drugs listed above.
Aluminum, Calcium, or Magnesium Antacids
Aluminum, calcium, and magnesium can bind to Proquin XR in the digestive tract, preventing it from being fully absorbed into the bloodstream. You should take your Proquin XR dosage at least four hours before or two hours after any product containing aluminum, calcium, or magnesium.
Caffeine
Proquin XR may reduce the body's ability to clear caffeine, potentially increasing its effects. Therefore, it may be a good idea to limit your caffeine intake while taking this medication. Keep in mind that many food and beverages contain caffeine, such as coffee, tea, and chocolate.
Corticosteroids
Taking Proquin XR with corticosteroids may increase your risk for tendon problems, such as tendonitis or tendon rupture. Older adults who take corticosteroids appear to be at an even higher risk for this reaction. If you take Proquin XR with a corticosteroid, be sure to watch for any signs of tendon problems, such as tendon or joint pain or tenderness (see Proquin XR and Tendon Rupture).
Didanosine
Some forms of didanosine can bind to Proquin XR in the digestive tract, preventing it from being completely absorbed into the bloodstream. You should take Proquin XR at least four hours before or two hours after didanosine. Not all forms of didanosine interact with Proquin XR, so be sure to ask your pharmacist about this possible reaction with your particular didanosine product.
Erlotinib
Proquin XR may increase the levels of erlotinib in your body, increasing your risk for side effects. If you take these medications together, watch for signs of severe erlotinib side effects, including severe diarrhea and skin reactions. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your erlotinib dosage to prevent this from occurring.
