Proquin XR Drug Interactions

Sevelamer
Sevelamer can bind to Proquin XR in the digestive tract, decreasing the amount that is absorbed into the bloodstream. You should take Proquin XR at least one hour before or three hours after sevelamer.
Sucralfate
Sucralfate can bind to Proquin XR in the digestive tract, decreasing the amount that is absorbed into the bloodstream. You should take your Proquin XR dose at least four hours before or two hours after sucralfate.
Sulfonylureas
There have been reports of changes in blood sugar (both low and high) in people taking sulfonylureas with Proquin XR. Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) may be more likely within the first couple of days of beginning treatment, while high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) may be more likely after several days. If you take a sulfonylurea, your healthcare provider may recommend that you check your blood sugar more often while taking Proquin XR.
Theophylline
Proquin XR may increase the level of theophylline in your blood, potentially increasing your risk for serious side effects, such as seizures. If you take these medications together, your healthcare provider will likely monitor the level of theophylline in your blood. You may need a lower theophylline dosage.
Tizanidine
Proquin XR may increase the amount of tizanidine in your blood, increasing your risk for side effects, such as sedation or low blood pressure (hypotension). The manufacturer recommends that these medications not be taken together. However, if your healthcare provider recommends that you take tizanidine with Proquin XR, you may need to be watchful for tizanidine side effects.
Typhoid Vaccine
Antibiotics, including Proquin XR, may decrease the effectiveness of the oral typhoid vaccine. It is generally recommended that the oral typhoid vaccine be postponed for at least a day after finishing Proquin XR.
