Proquin XR Drug Interactions

A number of medications could react with Proquin XR. For example, interactions can occur if the antibiotic is taken with phenytoin, caffeine, or NSAIDs, to name a few. These drug interactions could increase the risk of tendon ruptures, arrhythmias, and other complications. To avoid such problems, tell your healthcare provider about all other medications you are taking, including supplements.

An Overview of Interactions With Proquin XR

Proquin® XR (ciprofloxacin hydrochloride) is a prescription medication used in the treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs). This medication can potentially react with several other products.
Some of the drugs that may interact with Proquin XR include but are not limited to:
  • Aluminum, calcium, or magnesium antacids (Alternagel®, Gaviscon®, Maalox®, Mylanta®, Tums®, and many others)
  • Caffeine
  • Corticosteroids, such as:
    • Betamethasone (Celestone®)
    • Cortisone
    • Dexamethasone (Decadron®)
    • Fludrocortisone (Florinef®)
    • Hydrocortisone (Cortef®)
    • Methylprednisolone (Depo-Medrol®, Medrol®)
    • Prednisolone (Orapred®, Pediapred®)
    • Prednisone
    • Triamcinolone (Kenalog®, Aristospan®)
