Proquin XR Side Effects

Although most people have no problems with Proquin XR, side effects are possible. In clinical studies, some of the most commonly reported reactions to the antibiotic included yeast infection, headache, and an urgency to urinate. Serious problems are also possible. Tell your doctor if you develop tendon swelling, unusual changes in thoughts (such as hallucinations), or signs of an allergic reaction.

An Introduction to Proquin XR Side Effects

Just like any medicine, Proquin® XR (ciprofloxacin hydrochloride) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Proquin XR. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)

Common Side Effects of Proquin XR

Proquin XR has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking Proquin XR were documented and then compared to those that occurred in a similar group of people taking Cipro® (ciprofloxacin).
In these studies, the most commonly reported side effects of Proquin XR included:
  • Yeast infection -- in up to 2.6 percent of people
  • Inflammation of the nasal passages and throat -- up to 2.6 percent
  • Headache -- up to 2.4 percent
  • An urgency to urinate -- up to 2.0 percent.
