Available by prescription only, Provera® (medroxyprogesterone acetate) is a medication approved for treating amenorrhea (absence of menstrual periods) and abnormal vaginal bleeding, as well as for helping to prevent uterine cancer in postmenopausal women.
Provera comes in tablet form and is taken daily for a certain number of days in your cycle. Your dosage will depend on the reason why you are taking this drug and how you respond to it. Although most people tolerate Provera well, side effects may occur and can include headaches, spotting, and breast tenderness.
