Provera and Endometriosis

A healthcare provider may recommend Provera® (medroxyprogesterone acetate) for treating endometriosis. However, this is not an approved use for the drug. Sometimes healthcare providers prescribe medications for conditions they are not approved to treat. This is known as an "off-label" use. Treating endometriosis with Provera is an off-label use.
This medication may help relieve the symptoms of endometriosis by replacing progesterone that the body is unable to make. Provera may also work by preventing an overgrowth of the uterine lining.
