Provera® (medroxyprogesterone acetate) is a medication that is available by prescription only. It is approved for treating amenorrhea (absence of menstrual periods) and abnormal vaginal bleeding, as well as for preventing uterine cancer in postmenopausal women.
Before taking the medication, you should talk to your healthcare provider if you have any medical problems, such as heart disease, epilepsy, or a history of breast cancer. You also may not be able to use this drug if you are taking certain medications, so make sure your healthcare provider is aware of all other prescription and nonprescription drugs you are taking, including vitamins and supplements.
