Seasonique™ (levonorgestrel/ethinyl estradiol) is a prescription birth control pill. It is a combined oral contraceptive that contains both an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol) and a progestin (levonorgestrel). Although many women respond well to Seasonique, alternatives to this particular birth control pill are available for those who experience bothersome side effects.
There are many other types of birth control pills. These can be classified by hormone content, dose, and phases. Besides combined oral contraceptives, progestin-only contraceptives are available. These pills contain only a progestin, are less effective, and are usually reserved for women who cannot take combined oral contraceptives, such as breastfeeding women or women with clotting disorders.
