Sprintec Alternatives

Sprintec® (norgestimate/ethinyl estradiol) is a prescription birth control pill that is a generic version of Ortho-Cyclen®. For most women, this combined oral contraceptive (containing estrogen and progestin hormones) is a safe and effective way to prevent pregnancy. However, not all women should take it, as it may increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes, blood clots, and other problems. Fortunately, a number of alternatives to Sprintec are available.
If Sprintec is not suitable for you, your healthcare provider may recommend another type of birth control pill as an alternative, such as a progestin-only contraceptive. As the name implies, the only hormone contained in these pills is progestin. However, it's important to note that these pills are less effective than combined hormonal contraceptives.
