An Introduction to Side Effects of Thyroid USP

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with thyroid USP. However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with thyroid USP. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of thyroid USP side effects with you.)

Possible Side Effects of Thyroid USP

As with any medication, thyroid USP can cause allergic reactions. Seek medical attention immediately if you develop signs of an allergic reaction, including:
  • Hives
  • Itching
  • Wheezing or difficulty breathing
  • An unexplained rash
  • Unexplained swelling (especially of the lips, mouth, or throat).
Other than allergic reactions, side effects of thyroid USP typically occur when the dosage is too high. Too much thyroid USP causes symptoms of hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid hormones). Because hyperthyroidism can be quite dangerous, any of these symptoms should be reported to your healthcare provider, as they may signal that your thyroid USP dosage needs to be decreased. These side effects may include:
  • An increased appetite, along with weight loss
  • Heart palpitations
  • A rapid heart rate (tachycardia)
  • Heart failure, chest pain, or a heart attack
  • Feeling hot all the time and increased sweating
  • Fever
  • Difficult or painful breathing
  • Insomnia
  • Emotional changes
  • Hair loss
  • Flushing or hot flashes
  • Broken bones or other signs of weakened bones
  • Menstrual problems or fertility problems
  • Shakiness or muscle weakness
  • Hyperactivity, nervousness, anxiety, or irritability
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal cramps (stomach cramps)
  • Seizures.
